Putting A Bounce In My Step
Just a huge, huge thank you to everyone here, on Twitter, Facebook, the texts, emails - thank you SO much for your support yesterday it means the world to me.
I honestly felt so much more empowered from reading everyone's kind words.
So, Orlando slept last night from 7pm until 1am then did his weird 0430 wake up, back to sleep at 5, up again at 0545... at which stage I gave him to Hamish and he looked after him until he left for work.
BLESS YOUR COTTON SOCKS HAMISH!!!
So riddle me this mammas and pappas, how do I get him to stop this 0430/0545 nonsense?
Oh, then he will sleep again at 7 wake up for 2 hours and crash out again but properly.
Note, despite having a good feed at 0130 he has another good one at 0430..... HELP!
The child and maternal health nurse said to try and settle him again but he just won't stand for it.
How do I get him out of this pattern?
Valentines day is fast approaching, are you going to do some baking?
These red velvet cakes are ALWAYS a major hit, this Magnolia Bakery recipe is bomb dot com.
The cakes always turn out vivid, bright red on the inside unlike other recipes where they are brown or dark red.
I published the recipe here.
So:
How do I get Orlando out of his silly morning ritual?
Will you bake for Valentines day?
What are your weekend plans?

ReplyDeleteI dont have any advice for your little one, sorry! I''ll probably be asking the same questions on my blog one day lol
OMG they sound GOOD!!
DeleteI've given up on baking as it's going to be 30 degrees, he got an awesome watch and that's enough!

1. I have no idea but hope to God that it improves for you soon.
ReplyDelete2. Yes. I make a strawberry sponge. It's a tradition - but we always go out for dinner on the 15th so it's not cliched.....
3. Stay out of the heat.
Hope you have a good one x
PS that photo of the cupcakes on the crystal plate is AMAZING. so is, for that matter, the one of you and Orlando.

Dear merowyn congratulations on doing such a great job with Orlando.he looks like hes thriving.my gorgeous daughter is 6months now, very grown up!when she was at this stage, she was in a very similar pattern.I found it really challenging too,but got herself into a regular sleep pattern as she got older.
ReplyDeleteat Orlando's age,"sleeping through" is one 4-5hr sleep, sounds like he s already establishing that routine with his 7pm-1am sleep.young babies need to feed 2-3hrly to maintain their calorie&fluid intake until they get to abt 5months when they can go up to 4hrs between feeds & sleep upto 8hrs overnight, think they learn to eat enough in daytime hrs to sustain them overnight...although this is still unusual.
So the 1am & 4am feeds are completely normal.
the 545am wake up may coincide with a break in his sleep cycle-baby sleep goes in 30-45m cycles between REM & nonREM sleep.if he wakes 30-40mins after starting a sleep try keeping him wrapped,a dummy, shhhhh patting to try resettle back to sleep,if not just go with it...eventually things should iron out.
Good luck
Jayita
His calorie intake is SO adequate he's thriving according to statistics so I'm not at all worried about that... just the every hour feed from 4am... he doesn't need that, I don't need that!
DeleteI learnt about REM cycles for babies the other day and have a much better understanding for it.
I've got to say I've had some amazing advise from a mum and a baby whisperer/midwife and we are working things out which is SUCH a relief.
Thank you so much for your words, every bit helps!

I don't have any real advice, only solidarity. My bub, now 11 months, woke at least once a night for a feed until 8 months old. More when going through a growth spurt or Wonder Week, but we'd go through the tough times, and he'd then settle again. From talking to other mums, I think it's pretty normal for them to need the night time top up. But that doesn't make it any easier when you're tired! Good on H for giving you a much needed rest. Orlando is just gorgeous. Their cuteness makes the night time wake ups just that tiny bit more bearable. I actually miss the dead-of-the-night milky cuddles (a bit).
ReplyDeleteYep!
DeleteNot worried about the one top up, it's the hourly feeds in the AM.. my boobs dry up and he is getting nada but wants it!!!
We've got a plan in place now and things are slowly working, we will get there!

My son is 11 months old and does that - wakes up and wants a bottle before he goes back to sleep. So annoying.
ReplyDeleteIs he hungry? If he is EBF maybe you could add some formula to his last bottle to keep him fuller for longer?
Yeah, he's hungry... a machine!!!
DeleteAdding a scoop of formula to the EBM to fill him out and it seems to be working!

I am only a puppy mama so I have no tips on the bebe front but just wanted to say that YES THIS MAGNOLIA RED VELVET IS THE BOMB.COM. That's all.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Orlando is adorable x
Ahhhahahaha isn't it the best!!!!

You're lovely. I'm having valentines with my mum & grandparents this year! Ben is interstate & dad is at a Bee event (we're getting Bees! hehe). It'll be lovely, I think :) Happy Valentines Day, sweetness!
ReplyDeleteHeidi xo
OMG can't wait to hear about the bees!!!!

I wish I had the fix it answer for you but unfortunately I don't, what I can say is, he will eventually get into a groove and if he doesn't then get yourself to sleep school, friends of mine with the same issues had great success. Expressing if you can and getting your fella to help out with feeds thus allowing you to sleep will also work wonders for your energy. Good Luck lady and yes there is always cake!
ReplyDeleteSleekit x
Yes, sleep school is definitely on the cards if need be!
DeleteI'm expressing and Hamish does the 10pm feed, such a good idea!!!
Cake Rules Everything Around Me!

I agree, those little issues usually sort themselves out. Though you don't feel it, he sounds like he is actually a very good sleeper, as far as babies go! :)
DeleteHi there, new reader here :) really loving your blog. I'm a mummy to be so can't speak from personal experience but a girlfriend of mine has had great success with a book called "save our sleep" quite strict but she gets good sleep. Ill be trying it out and hope its as successful for me. I've had a few friends highly recommend it. Might be worth a try. Hope it all improves soon :) Maria.
ReplyDeleteI made the cupcakes on the weekend, def the best recipe ever. Kisses for you and O x
